Swansea Science Festival Passport

Swansea Science Festival is the largest free festival of its kind in Wales, organised by Swansea University in partnership with the National Waterfront Museum. Filled with over 40 exhibits and hundreds of interactive activities, the festival attracts families from far and wide with a range of shows, talks and workshops for all levels of knowledge.

With Swansea Science Festival being hosted between the LC in Swansea and the National Waterfront Museum, the excitement of the events taking place presented a challenge to organisers: how do we encourage attendees to travel between the two locations when one is entertaining enough?

In response, we created a Swansea Science Festival passport inspired by the idea of travel. Featuring puzzles and fascinating science facts, it also encourages younger scientists – and the young at heart – to collect stamps from the different locations to fill their passport, thereby providing seamless links between the host sites.

Researching the audience, we opted for a sturdier card stock, a concertina design and created age appropriate and interactive copy to make the passport convenient for on-the-go families, whilst also creating a detachable feedback form for the festival, incentivised by the possibility of prizes. Produced bilingually, it allowed families to enjoy the activity in both Welsh and English.
